The Reelax Simrad 2013 Light Tackle Game Fish Tournament kicks off next week running from October 3 through October 6. The tournament is the Whitsunday Game Fish Club’s largest tournament of the year. Anglers fishing in the tournament can expect some great action as the Coral Sea is a remarkable place to fish this time of year. Tournament participants will be targeting giant trevally, cobia, wahoo, tuna, mackerel, and billfish. The trick is that no angler can use a line heavier than 10kg test (about 22 lbs test). This is, after all, a light tackle tournament.
This is the thirtieth for the tournament, and expectations are high. There will be a tournament briefing on Thursday, October 3, and competition will begin Friday morning with sail past at 6:30am and a shotgun start at 7:00am.
There will be a free billfish rigging session tonight at 6:30, as well as a sausage sizzle and raffle.
