As we noted last week, the Whitsunday Game Fish Club’s Reelax Simrad 2013 Light Tackle Game Fish tournament took place this past weekend. Over the course of the three-day tournament, anglers tagged and released 17 billfish.

Reports from the tournament say that the first two days were pretty windy, but the final day  offered up near-perfect conditions.

This year’s tournament hosted 18 boats with 59 anglers competing

Top angler honors this year went to Whitsunday Game Fish Club President Ash Warland who caught three black marlin and one sailfish. Warland’s success at the rod also earned Watta Cat the title of champion boat over 7m. Charter boats Sea Fever and Bad Habits followed on the leader board. Other honors went to:

• Champion boat over 7m- 1st Watta Cat, 2nd Sea Fever, 3rd Bad Habits
• Champion boat under 7- 1st Kanoo 2, 2nd Ranga
• Male champion angler – 1st Ash Warland, R/U Troy Harvey
• Female champion angler – 1st Sorell Davidge, R/U Aileen Harris
• Junior champion angler – 1st Dayle Johnson, R/U Matthew Vessey
