The word from Saltwater Nation anglers in Washington is that central Puget Sound and the eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca are the places to be right now for hatchery chinook (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha). We’re getting reports from Jefferson Head, Blake Island, Southworth, Blakely Rock, and Manchester of consistent catches.
The fish have been in the 8 to 10 pound range, and anglers are hooking up both jigging and trolling.
Keep in mind that you can identify hatchery salmon as distinct from wild salmon by the presence or absence of the adipose fin. Wild salmon have an intact adipose fin and the fin has been removed on hatchery salmon.
