Yes, it’s cold in New Jersey, but that doesn’t mean the fishing has stopped. We’re getting reports from a few hearty souls in the Saltwater Nation who are bundling up and catching some nice fish.
According to one angler we spoke with, New Jersey’s inshore reefs have been holding some nice sized lings and sea bass. The lings have been hitting clam strips or squid. There have also been some decent sized pollock and cod around, which, while not the most exciting sport fishing, are certainly worth chasing for the dinner plate. A nice, hot pollock stew or chowder would certainly offset the cold. There have also been some good sized tautog taken off the reefs, as well.
There are also some stripers still around the beaches taking different eel imitators.
So, don’t let winter keep you off the water. There’s great fishing out there.
