Lots to Celebrate in Southern North Carolina!

Saltwater Nation: North Carolina

Saltwater Nation: North Carolina

Talk about a winter hot spot: the word we’re getting from southern North Carolina is that there’s a lot of great fishing going on.

Near shore, anglers are reporting great catches of black sea bass, especially to about 20 miles out along near shore reefs. Near shore anglers are also reporting gag grouper and a few grunts along the reefs.

Inshore anglers are reporting sea mullet, speckled trout, black drum, and red drum in the surf and rivers.

But it’s the offshore action that appears to be outstanding. We’re getting reports of a few kings being caught out to about 40 miles, but the real action seems to be about 50 miles out and along the break where jigging for African pompano is keeping anglers busy with great catches. There are also nice amberjack and blackfin tuna being hooked, too. We’ve even heard that a few wahoo are being reported. Sounds like a great way to wrap up 2013!
