Being from Florida, we hate cold weather and hate fishing in it. That said, we’re intrigued by a new device invented for ice-fishing called BlueTipz.
Developed by Wisconsin residents Brad Zdroik and Ryan Zdroik, BlueTipz is a device placed on an ice-fishing tip-up flag. When a fish strikes, BlueTipz sends a signal (via bluetooth) to a smartphone (iPhone or Android) letting the angler, warm inside his or her shelter, know they have a fish on. This allows the angler to stay inside and not have to visually monitor his lines by venturing into the cold.
Other than having to fish where there is ice, we like the ingenuity of this idea and wonder how BlueTipz or similar devices might be employed for other kinds of fishing (for instance, could one place this on a rod tip in such a way that it sends a signal when tipped down?).
We’re looking forward to shooting a gear review for this invention, except we’d have to fish where there’s ice. With the Polar Vortex making its way to Florida, it might just happen.
