There’s an interesting story in today’s Boston Globe about a cod tagging program. With the help of The Nature Conservancy in Massachusetts, fishermen and scientists have started tagging cod, inserting $300 trackers into 130 fish to better understand and protect their spawning. Researchers have placed 38 sensors in cod inhabited regions and will be able to track the movement of the 130 tagged cod.
The program was initiated by Scituate fishermen who recognized the need for further research and, perhaps, further restrictions in their own cod fisheries.
