Aucklander Tracey Lidiard may have set a new women’s record for largest kingfish [yellowtail amberjack (S. l. lalandi). Tracey took this impressive 40 kg (88.185 lbs) 145 cm (4.75 ft) in Tauranga Harbour in the Northeast Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand, though she’s not saying exactly where.
The fish outweighs the current women’s record fish by 6 kg and was weighed and confirmed at the Tauranga Sport Fishing Club.
Tracey was fishing aboard her parents’ boat, and rumor is that the fish is being professionally smoked and should be ready to eat soon. Unfortunately, Tracey is headed to the UK where she plays hockey for Teddington and works as a physiotherapist, and she’s not permitted to bring any of the fish with her.
Great catch, Tracey!
