Yes, indeed, there are a lot of bonefish waving their silver flags in Biscayne Bay right now, and we can’t think of a better place to be.
Bones have been tailing and pushing water around the southern parts of the bay for the last few days. The fish seem most active when the higher tides peak in the early mornings (link here for the tides for Cutler for the next few days), particularly along western shoreline flats. The fish on the east side of the bay, around Sands Key, Elliott Key, Totten Key, and Old Rhodes Key have also been active, but more so on falling tides. Try working the ocean-side flats in this area.
Of course, live shrimp seem to be the bonefish bait of choice, but for those of you prone to live by the fly, try working tan clousers, Merkin crab patterns, or tan Crazy Charlies. Of course, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with laying a few Gotchas or Royal Coachmen out there, too.
