It’s Really Cold in NOLA—Guess Where the Redfish Are

Saltwater Nation: Louisiana

Saltwater Nation: Louisiana

Like everywhere else in the Southeast United States this week, New Orleans has been blasted by the cold. And, if you know New Orleans, then you know when it gets this cold, the redfish can only be one place: Bayou La Loutre.

Bayou La Loutre is part of the old course of the Mississippi River, and while the river hasn’t run this course in nearly 3000 years, this area of bayou is a favorite redfish hold up when things get really cold–like they are this week.

There are a lot of road closures in the area right now, so you’ll need to find open road access to the water (hint: look around Shell Beach).

Reds are stacked up in the area and are hitting dead shrimp on the bottom. If history holds true, they’ll stay in the area until the water start to warm again.

FISH ON!
