Wicked Tuna kicked off its third season last night with captain TJ Ott of the Hot Tuna coming out on top with a nice 636lb fish. Captain Tyler McLaughlin and the Pin Wheel crew putting a 344 pounder on board to start the season in second place. A great episode and great way to start season three.
This past weekend at the Miami International Boat Show, the great folks at Maui Jim Sunglasses introduced Inventive Fishing to Captain Tyler McLaughin and Captain Paul Hebert (of the Wicked Pissah) who were more than generous with their time.
Captain Tyler talked with us about shooting the Wicked Tuna: North vs South season and the complications of trying to navigate Oregon Inlet. Captain Paul got in on the fun and we had a great time talking about Outer Banks fishing and trading a few fishing stories. While both of these guys are serious competitors (you can see that come out on the show), and fishing with them in the situations depicted on Wicked Tuna certainly takes some serious work, these guys are also genuinely nice people who we’d be thrilled to spend time with learning more about tuna fishing.
We also got the opportunity, thanks to the folks at Stidd Systems (who make the most incredible ergonomic marine seats), to chat with Captain Bill “Hollywood” Muniz, who, like Captain Tyler and Captain Paul, was more than generous with his time in talking with us about fishing and things inventive. He even tried to drag Bounty Hunter Crew member Greg Chorebanian into the fun.
