There have been two impressive fish submitted recently for possible IGFA records.
The first is a 226 lb. 10 oz. dogtooth salmon (Gymnosarda unicolor) taken by by Jason Alexiou off of Latham Island, Tanzania, on November 16, 2103. If approved, the fish will be recorded as the third heaviest dogtooth taken in the all tackle class. In the 80 lb. line class, though, Alexiou’s fish will overtake the current record by more than 5 lbs. Alexiou caught the massive dogtooth while jigging a Yozuri Hydrometer while using a Shimano Stella.
The second fish stands to be the new world record for women’s 20 lb. tippet class. Angler Elizabeth Johnson took a 38 lb. 8 oz. black drum (Pogonias cromis). The current record for this class is 33 lbs. 12 oz. Johnson was fishing with guide Brian Johnson in Louisiana’s Biloxi Marsh when the fish hit a clouser she presented.
