Rhys Assan of Busselton, Australia posted an interesting video on YouTube this past Thursday (3/20) of a magnificent mahi mahi beaching itself along the Western Australian shore.
Assan’s girlfriend Leah Reitinger and her mother were walking along the beach when they noticed a dark shadow in the water. According to Reitinger, “We saw a huge dolphin in the water and next to it what we believed was a baby dolphin.” She then called for Assan to join them.
They watched the fish swim erratically and beach itself numerous times. Assan tried to swim the fish out to deeper water, but was unsuccessful in his attempt to save the fish.
Dolphin are not common to the Western Australian region, and are particularity not found in shallow waters where Assan filmed this one. Assan said he shot the video because he didn’t think his friends would believe him about the dolphin beaching itself.
