Big Striped Bass are showing up in New England

We are getting reports from Massachusetts to Maine that good numbers of large striped bass have returned for the summer. The Stripers are showing up in Boston area in the North Rivers river basins in areas like the Mystic, the Charles, and the Merrimack. The fish in these areas are showing in good numbers, but they are a bit on the small side.

Farther south, around cape Cod, some bigger fish have been taken, and it’s likely that these bigger fish will make their way north over the next few days.

Local experts have told us that the large numbers of bass might be attributed to the fact that these bass are of the age to have likely been born in the Chesapeake Bay in 2011, a year when striped bass births were recorded as up.

Big doormat flounder have been steady in the region, as well, particularly in the Boston Harbor. We’ve gotten reports of many 23-inchers being caught.

FISH ON!
