The first day of the 49th annual Pompano Beach Fishing Tournament offered some rather challenging conditions. Not all of the registered 55 boats braved the near nine-feet seas, but most did.
Despite the rough conditions on the first day, the fishing was good, and at the end of the day the Wet Hooker team was holding a solid lead with two king fish, two dolphin, and four blackfin tunas for a total weigh in of 211 pounds.
But today, the second day of fishing, the family team of James David and his sister Laurel of Frick and Frack were able to log 133.7 pounds of kings and tuna at the weigh in, bringing their two-day total to 324.5 pounds of fish, giving them the highest overall weight and the 2014 tournament trophy.
The Wet Hooker finished the second day with 99.1 pounds, for an aggregate total of 310.1 pounds and a second place finish.
The largest fish was a 60.2-pound cobia taken by Matt Teuchert with Postage Paid. Glenda Brandon and Gus Rhodes logged the second heaviest fish with a 44.4-pound king.
