On February 19, 2014, Donna Pascoe boated a 907-pound Pacific bluefin tuna (Thunnus orientalis) of off New Zealand. The IGFA has now certified the catch as the women’s world record in the 130-pound line class, as well the women’s all tackle world record for Pacific bluefin tuna. The IGFA has not yet identified whether or not the tuna will also take over the world record for overall IGFA record for Pacific bluefin tuna.
If the IGFA approves the all tackle record, Pascoe’s fish will beat out Kevin Baker’s 777-pound 1-ounce Pacific Bluefin taken in September, 2013 off the coast of Greymouth, New Zealand, by 130 pounds.
Interestingly, despite an official announcement from IGFA about the overall all tackle world record for Pascoe, the IGFA identifies the current all tackle record as 907-pounds 6-ounces on their information page about Pacific Bluefin Tuna.
