After much anticipation and discussion over the winter, the summer flounder (Paralichthys dentatus) season opened today in New Jersey waters.
As recently as April 3, 2104, the New Jersey Marine Fisheries Council was still altering regulations for summer flounder fishing. The Council imposed the following regulations for recreational summer flounder fishing during their April 3 meeting:
The 18-inch limit is the largest set limit to date. Last year the limit had been reduced from 18 inches to 17 1/2 inches, but the Council returned the limit to its previous high in order to participate in a regional management plan with New York, and Connecticut.
