The weather report for today calls for winds out of the Southwest at 15-20 with seas in the 3-4 feet range; Friday the winds will let off and then swing around to the Northeast on Saturday. Not the best forecast for the Bohicket Invitational Billfish Tournament, part of the 2014 South Carolina Governor’s Cup Billfishing Series. Nonetheless, you had better bet that boats will be out there for this tournament.
The five-tournament Governor’s Cup has been running for 26 years, and the tournament expects at least two dozen teams to participate. Given that last year’s tournament was hampered by the threat of Tropical Storm Andrea and only 17 boats made it out, this year’s forecast, while not ideal, certainly bodes better than the 2013 forecast.
Teams can fish two of the three schedule tournament days, and with the forecast calling for the wind to settle on Friday afternoon, we expect that a lot of the teams will be holding to dock on Thursday, keeping an eye on things.
