Nineteen-year-old Neil Smith may have just landed in the Louisiana state record books with a possible number 6-ranked cobia. This past Wednesday, Smith was fishing about 70 miles southwest of Cypremort Point when a solid 100-pound-plus cobia nailed his pink curly-tail jig at about 50 feet down.
Smith took his fish to Dago’s certified scales in Lydia, and the fish weighed in officially at 101.3 pounds. The cobia measured 59 inches in length and 33 inches in girth.
If certified by the Louisiana Outdoor Writers Association, the fish will be logged as the new number 6-ranked fish in the state.
