Roffer’s Ocean Fishing Forecasting Service, Inc (ROFFS) has posted a discussion and two videos depicting infrared satellite images from May 6- may 7, 2013 of the Bahamas. The videos show warm water being pulled northeastward away from Cat Island and some being pulled westward toward the Great Abaco Canyon. This warmer water brings blue marlin and yellowfin tuna with it. According to ROFFS, when this water–and the fish moving with it–link up with the Gulf Stream, many of the fish will cross to the West side of the Stream, bringing marlin and tuna to the area from Jacksonville, Florida to Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. The discussion provides some great insight into both the water flow of the Bahamas and Gulf Stream, as well as a more sophisticated understanding of how larger game fish like marlin and tuna migrate with the movement of warmer waters.
