A new Texas state record for blue marlin was set this weekend at the Bastante John Uhr Memorial Billfish Tournament in Rockport, Texas.
Legacy Fishing team angler Richard Richardson landed the big blue while fishing with Captain Kevin Deerman. The marlin weighed in at 972.7 pounds, more than 96 pounds heavier than the previous state record of 876 pounds, which James Farrow set back on August 20, 1988.
Last year, at the 2013 Bastante tournament, the Legacy team won the biggest blue marlin event in the Bastante tournament and took third place overall.
It’s going to be tough to beat Legacy’s marlin mark this year, though the tournament still has another day of fishing ahead.
Congratulations to Richard Richardson, Captain Deerman, Team Legacy, and all of the anglers and organizers at the Bastante tournament.
