Sydney Game Fishing Club President Karen Wright Catches Pending Record Southern Bluefin Tuna

Sydney Game Fishing Club President Karen Wright may be headed to the record books. This past Wednesday, Wright caught a 317-pound southern bluefin tuna on 30-pound test. The fish will likely be recognized as the the largest southern bluefin to be taken on rod and reel on 30-pound line by a female angler. The Sydney Game Fishing Club announced: “The Sydney Game Fishing is pleased to announce that Karen Wright club president has just weighted the one of the largest Southern Bluefin tuna to ever be captured on rod and reel by a female angler on 15kg line.” The fish is now being assessed as a possible world record catch.

Wright fought the tuna for approximately 35 minutes before bringing it to gaff. The fish is estimated to be worth $3750 (U.S.), but recreational anglers are prohibited from selling their catches, so Wright had the fish processed and shared the meat with her friends.
