Although ORCA coolers have been around for a few years now, Vice President of Sales Bill Terry provided Inventive Fishing with a walkthrough of what’s new for 2014.
At first glance, the ORCA coolers look like a typical roto-molded coolers that compete with other companies such as Yeti and Engel. ORCA coolers come in five sizes (26, 40, 58, 75, and 140 quarts) and four colors (green, tan, pink, and white).
At ICAST, ORCA unveiled their new 20 quart cooler. In addition to its new size, it showcased ORCA’s redesigned whale-tale latch handle. What makes ORCA coolers unique—according to Terry—are a few features specific to this brand.
As Terry explained, ORCA coolers provide a variety of attachment points for accessories. Using standard, preexisting screw locations, a variety of accessories can be added such as rod holders, cell phone grips, cup holders, etc. A mesh pocket on the back comes standard, allowing for extra, quick storage for jackets, tools, tackle, or other items.
In addition, ORCA coolers have hard plastic feet that allow them to slide, and rubber feet that can be added to prevent the cooler from sliding once it’s in place on a boat or other slick surface. These feet also provide an insert point for a wheel kit (sold separately). This kit also fits other cooler brands.
According to Terry, ORCA coolers are the only roto-molded coolerss that are made in the U.S. Every part is owner-serviceable, and ORCA will replace (free of charge) any parts that become defective or wear out, such as the pivot rods, handles, or latches.
Terry stated that the 26qt cooler also come in a series of limited edition university and collegiate colors, most notably from SEC schools such as Tennessee, Alabama, LSU, and Auburn. There’s no UF Orange and Blue yet, but Terry says it’s on its way.
ORCA coolers have also partnered with the Billfish Foundation, donating a portion of their profits to charity. Sale of the pink ORCA cooler benefits the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s breast cancer research.
As you can see from this photo, ORCA coolers are also very strong!
