NOAA announced the the plan to develop the policy in a press release on April 2, 2014. The press release followed soon after The Commission on Saltwater Recreational Fisheries Management released its report “A Vision for Managing America’s Saltwater Recreational Fisheries” in which the Commission calls for a national policy on recreational fisheries. Prior to this call and, now the first draft of the new policy, the U.S. had no national policy pertaining to recreational saltwater fishing.
We urge you to take a look at the draft to better understand what is being proposed in this first-of-its-kind document and to share your thoughts with NOAA/NMFS before they finalize the policy.
