CCA Louisiana and Chevron have teamed up for the longest and richest summer-long saltwater fishing tournament in Louisiana, making Chevron the title sponsor for the 21st Annual Statewide Tournament and Angler’s Rodeo (STAR). Competition begins the Saturday before Memorial Day, on May 23rd, and lasts 108 days until Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2015.
“We’re proud to be the title sponsor of this tournament, proud to support CCA Louisiana in their mission to conserve our state’s marine resources.” said Chevron Gulf of Mexico Vice President Mike Illanne
The 2015 STAR is offering over $500,000 in prizes and is open to anglers of every age. There will be more ways to win this year with the addition of the Tagged Speckled Trout Division as well as payouts for second and third places in the Trout Division.
“STAR is our largest membership drive of the year and with the addition of new sponsors, especially Chevron, we will be able to offer even more ways to win,” said STAR Chairman Nelson Roth. “By offering more prizes, hopefully we will attract more anglers to share in our passion of conserving the coast.”
STAR’s signature Tagged Redfish Division, sponsor by the Super Chevy Dealers of Acadiana, Baton Rouge and New Orleans has been a staple of the tournament for 20 years. In addition to sponsoring the Tagged Redfish Division, the Super Chevy Dealers will also sponsor the Tagged Speckled Trout Division, offering four, $2,500 tackle packages for the first four anglers to catch a tagged trout. These prizes are guaranteed so even if a tagged trout is not caught, a winner will be drawn from all registered participants.
“Last year was a record breaker in participation, the largest in 20 years!” said Rad Trascher, STAR Director. “Now with the help of our great sponsors and new prizes, we think it will get even bigger.”
