Jimmy Johnson National Billfish Championship

.

The 2015 Jimmy Johnson National Billfish Championship (JJNBC), sponsored by Contender and Yamaha, is kicking into high gear March 18-21, 2015 for its 4th annual tournament. Celebrities and pro anglers from all over will join together for a great weekend of fun in the Florida Keys as participants prepare to fish for a record setting purse and the coveted award, Jimmy Johnson’s National Billfish Championship Rings.

The Big Chill, at MM 104 in Key Largo, Fl, will be host to the weekend events, with the opening party and captain’s meetings happening Wednesday, March 18th,, all supported additionally by the Monroe County Tourism Development Council. For the 2nd year in a row, Jimmy Johnson, renowned football coach, FOX sports analyst, and avid fisherman, will host the BASS PRO SHOPS Celebrity Pro/Am Charity Competition on Thursday, March 19th, sponsored by GARMIN, before the billfish championship begins the next day. Thurday’s event will match a few of the pro teams with some of Jimmy’s celebrity friends as they head out for a competitive day on the water in an effort to raise additional money for the event beneficiary, UM Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.

JimmyJohnson1University of Miami Sylvester Cancer Center is an organization close to Jimmy Johnson, which provides a variety of cancer services and is the center hub for major cancer-related research, diagnosis and treatment. In 2013, the JJNBC was hosted in honor of a high school student, Billy Thies, Jr., who was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. Thankfully, Billy has received an “All Clear” diagnosis and is now a contributor to the Billy Thies, Jr. Award, which will be given to a UM Sylvester patient each year during the closing reception of the tournament.

Competition days will be on Friday, March 20, and Saturday, March 21, with closing ceremonies at Big Chill Saturday evening. Professional anglers from up the east coast will take to the South Florida waters and compete for the big bucks to decide who is the next champion of the JJNBC.
