Saltwater Nation anglers from Virginia are reporting some great cobia fishing. Large schools of big fish are being reported moving from southern waters off of North Carolina’s Outer Banks up to Virginia Beach waters. Fish over 50 pounds are being taken in the area of Bluefish Rock. Anglers have been locating big cobia in open water and sight casting jigs and baits. White bucktails have been particularly effective.
Offshore, yellowfin tuna and dolphin have been taking a variety of trolling lures. Yellowfin have been coming in between 50 and 70 pounds, and offshore anglers are also reporting great catches of gaffer dolphin of 15 pounds.
Inshore, red drum are lighting up the barrier islands and the Chesapeake bay. Big reds are being taken along the barrier island surf lines and shoals, as well as the shoals of the northern parts of the bay. A few anglers have taken some big reds out of the surf by sight casting to the fish. The black drum appear to have moved from the areas around markers 13 and 16 to the rock islands around the Bridge Tunnel.
