The first phase of the Oregon Tuna Classic kicks off tomorrow in Ilwaco, Washington and will be held Saturday and Sunday. The second part of the tournament will be held August 16 and 17 in Garibaldi, Oregon, the gateway to the Pacific (and, yes, a garibaldi (Hypsypops rubicundus) is a bright orange, sub-tropical, pacific damsel fish, named after the military leader Giuseppe Garibaldi, whose followers often wore scarlet or red shirts to indicate their loyalty. And yes, the garibaldi is the state fish of California).
The Oregon Tuna Classic organization is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing its catches to feed the hungry in Oregon and Washington.
