The 40th annual White Marlin Open will kick off in Ocean City on August 5 for the fortieth year. Recognized as one of the top billfish tournaments in the world, the Open will draw an estimated 300 boats and thousands of spectators, and will feature an estimated $2.4 million in prizes this year.
Angler Vince Soranson won the first White Marlin Open with a 68-pound white marlin in 1974. Last year William Woody fishing aboard the Blew Bayou won with a 72-pound fish, earning a prize pool of and estimated $1,429,092.00.
With five days of fishing scheduled, and more than 250 boats anticipated, the Open will require all participants to adhere to both federal regulations and IGFA rules.
We look forward to seeing the results of this year’s tournament and wish all participants the best in competition.
