Bruno Leroy of Radio New Zealand International reports that Samuela Ratini, a crew member of a Taiwanese vessel, has caught a 220 pound big eye tuna about 620 miles east of Fiji that was tagged in 2000.
Interestingly, the fish was caught in roughly the same area where it was tagged.
The Secretariat of the Pacific Community has been tagging tuna since 1970, but ramped up efforts in 2006 and has tagged more than 400,000 fish.
