For those of us who have spent many years fishing the Outer Banks of North Carolina, this is the time of year we wait all year for: the time when the offshore bite is on fire and the water boils with big game fish.
Charter captains at Pirates Cove in Manteo and the fleet at Oregon Inlet Fishing Center are reporting abundant catches of blue marlin (Makaira nigricans), white marlin (Tetrapturus albidus), sailfish (Istiophorus albicans), blackfin tuna (Thunnus atlanticus), yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares), and dolphin (Coryphaena hippurus). We’ve heard a number of reports of billfish slams being recorded, as well.
If you can, get out there. This summer’s big game run is too spectacular to miss.
