The world-famous Tuna Club of Avalon on Catalina will open its doors for one day this Saturday for tours. Proceeds will benefit the Catalina Island Museum.
The Tuna Club is perhaps the most famous and most prestigious fishing club in the U.S. Founded in 1898 by Charles Frederick Holder, the “inventor” of big game fishing and founder of the Tournament of Roses Parade, the Tuna Club boasts alumni memberships of Zane Grey, Bing Crosby, Charlie Chaplin, Stan Laurel, Hal Roach, Cecil B. DeMille, Theodore Roosevelt, Herbert Hoover, George S. Patton and Winston Churchill. The club is known as having originated big game fishing.
This year’s tours will be guided by Tuna Club Past President Mike Rivkin. Two tours are scheduled: one at 2:00 pm and one at 3:00 pm. Tickets are $30 for museum members and $35 for the general public.
