Congratulations to Bob Roy Sr. of Salisbury, Massachusetts who has caught the largest striper (Morone saxatilis) taken in Massachusetts waters in years. Roy’s 54-pound, 10-ounce striper taken outside the mouth of the Merrimack River, is the first 50-pound plus fish to be caught in the area since 2010.
Roy was drifting a live mackerel outside the river mouth in the morning when the fish hit.
As a local honor, a photograph of Roy and his fish will be added to big fish board at Surfland Bait and Tackle on Plum Island Turnpike. Only catches of stripers of 50 pounds or better make the board. Roy’s picture is the first to be added since 2010.
