Last week we told you about Extreme Kayak Fishing dot com’s first sailfish smackdown tournament. Well, it looks like the tournament was a success, but it looks like a couple of bass fishermen from Oklahoma who had never fished in the ocean before took top honors.
Oklahoman Chris Thomas caught and released the first sail to win the tournament and win the $3,000 prize from tournament sponsors Turbo USA, some Costa sunglasses, and a live bait rod from Blue Marlin Chronicles.
Ryan Jones, also from Oklahoma, took the second sail to claim second prize of $1,000 from Bru’s Room in Pompano Beach and some Costa sunglasses.
Third prize went to local angler Marcos Baldo, earning him $500 from Bru’s Room and Costa glasses.
Congrats to all of the winners and all of the anglers who participated in this inaugural tournament, one that is certain to draw much more attention in the years to come. Inventive Fishing sends a loud salute to the Extreme Kayak Fishing team for organizing this great event. We hope to be there next year!
Here’s a great video from Joe Hector about this year’s tournament:
