Anglers had a difficult time finding fish, but their persistence paid off as some beautiful fish were caught, photographed, and released in this all CPR tournament.
Local Angler Robert Brown took top prizes with the largest overall aggregate as well as the overall largest fish. Brown currently leads the overall series as well, and is a good bet for the National Championship tournament.
Second place went to William Lusk, third place to Steve Coblentz, fourth place to David Durrance, and fifth place to Dennis Matthews. The top ten anglers were honored with with prizes from an amazing group of sponsors. Without question, the wonderful sponsors of this tournament series provide a great array of prizes for anglers.
Captain Pat Horrigan, National Director of Tournaments, introduced anglers to a new sponsor of the tournament: AIRRUS Rods. Captain Pat provided a great intro to the rods during the awards ceremony, and the anglers in attendance showed a lot of enthusiasm about these new rods. AIRRUS is an Italian company that’s been making rods for more than ten years and has won the iCast award for best rod a couple of times. Using a filament wound construction and nano technology resins, AIRRUS claims to make the most technologically advanced rods in the world. From the look and feel of the rods we saw at the tournament, they look pretty amazing. AIRRUS and Tropic Bay make a great collaboration. Congratulations to both organizations for their success and partnership.
The award ceremony was held at Sarasota’s Bob’s Boathouse. The folks at Bob’s provided a great, welcoming atmosphere for the event.
All-in-all, the Tropic Bay tournament series is one of the best kayak fishing series we’ve encountered. There are three tournaments left (Pensacola 7/12, Yankeetown 8/2, and Mosquito Lagoon 9/6) before the National Championships on October 11 and the Kayak Fishing Festival October 31-November 2 to be held at Ft. Desoto in St. Petersburg, FL. We really recommend that you participate in these great events. You can learn more about them at www.kayakfishingclassics.com
