Twelve-year-old angler Taylor Shenk was fishing with her family off of Ponce Inlet, Florida, when she reeled in what may be a world-record red snapper.
The current red snapper record for a Junior Female is 24 pounds set eight years ago. Shenk’s fish weighs in at 26 pounds, and her family has submitted the catch for IGFA certification.
Shenk hooked the fish in 100 feet of water on a 6-inch croaker. She fought the fish for 15 minutes before bringing it to net, which her father Corey Shenk was more than eager to provide.
The Shenks had the fish weighed at New Smyrna Marina on IGFA certified scales.
Taylor Shenk has said she now want to catch a record red grouper as well.
