Do you remember that 1986 movie Mosquito Coast? You know, the one where Han Solo drags the young Indiana Jones and the Queen of England into the South American jungle to hang out with Stef from the Goonies and build a perpetual motion ice maker so the natives can make margaritas? I always wondered why that Rick Deckard guy thought ice would civilize the jungle. Well, fortunately, we live in an era of hi-performance coolers and we can tote ice with us just about wherever we want. And as more and more cooler companies push cooler innovations, there’s a new product on the cooler market that’s taking a different spin on the high-performance cooler: IceMule.
IceMule coolers are designed with some of the same features as dry bags, but with the added bonus of insulating like a high-performance coolers.
IceMule coolers keep ice intact up to 24 hours. When empty, they can be rolled up for easy storage. And, they float. The walls of the IceMule are inflatable, so you can adjust the amount of insulation that the cooler provides and create a layer of air in the walls which also allows it to float.
Unlike other soft coolers, this design is based on the traditional dry bag concept and uses welded seams. IceMule is not sewn together and has no zippers.
The double-layered shell house insulating foam between the layers creates an incredibly well insulated dry bag.
The IceMule comes with a choice of two styles of straps: a backpack style or a one strap model. Both are are adjustable to suit a variety of carrying styles and body types and can easily be removed.
The IceMule appears to offer a lot in terms of mobility, and we’re eager to try these coolers on the yaks and SUPs
Here’s a bit more about the evolution of the IceMule:
