Inventive Fishing loves when we hear from other members of the Saltwater Nation about their own fishing tips.
As part of a regular series, Captain Judd Wise of the “Lil” Butt Nakid and Team Wise Fishing will provide a weekly fishing tip based on his years of fishing out of Fort Myers and Key West. Enjoy.
Anglers,
Winter time in Florida is a great time to fish if you don’t mind the wind and cold. The groupers, kings, and wahoos abound. Some anglers like myself will bide their time until spring. This is a great time to be changing line on your reels (remember to recycle your line) and grease the gears. Pull off the spool to make sure that line is not tangled on the metal gear shaft that goes up and down. Grease the very bottom of the metal gear shaft where it goes into the reel. Put the spool back on. Take the handle and cover off and grease the gears. Just remember what screws go where. When the cover is put on, and the handle reattached, it should turn smoothly. Check your drag as well as the anti-reverse lever underneath to make sure everything is in proper working order. Giving your reel a once-a-year physical will keep it healthy and you happy as money won’t have to be spent on costly repairs.
