‘Lil’ Butt Nakid Quick Tip of the Month

Inventive Fishing loves when we hear from other members of the Saltwater Nation about their own fishing tips.

As part of a regular series, Captain Judd Wise of the “Lil” Butt Nakid and Team Wise Fishing will provide a monthly fishing tip based on his years of fishing out of Fort Myers and Key West. Enjoy.

Anglers,

If you are like the Shirtless Captain, you want to catch fish every time you go out. Releasing your catch is the way to go. I have no problem with keeping fish to eat, but this week’s tip is all about releasing your catch. When you bring your fish in and you want a photo opportunity, keep the fish in the water until your camera person is ready. Get the fish in the boat and remove the hook carefully. Hold your fish under its belly and by the tail. Fish have organs just like we do and the balance can get hurt if you hold them poorly or too tightly. Take your photo and when you are finished you can gently release your catch back into the water. Some species you may have to hold by the lower lip and gently move them back and forth. I find that when they start sucking on my thumb it is time to release. With your bigger fish, the photo may have to be done with by hanging your head over the side next to it. Remember, we all want to do our part in keeping the fish population growing for our grandkids to have the same enjoyment we have.
