Inventive Fishing loves when we hear from other members of the Saltwater Nation about their own fishing tips.
As part of a regular series, Captain Judd Wise of the “Lil” Butt Nakid and Team Wise Fishing will provide a weekly fishing tip based on his years of fishing out of Fort Myers and Key West. Enjoy.
Anglers,
As we get ready to approach spring, a lot of our boats have sat for the winter. I recommend that you take your boat to your engine’s authorized mechanic or your favorite mechanic and have them do a 100 hour check. Have them clean your carbs and replace the spark plugs. Change your impeller, fuel filter, and water separator as well as the lower unit oil. Grease the turning bar and check your fluid on the trim and tilt. Look and the date on your battery(ies) and check the cables for corrosion. If you have the battery switch to turn on and off, make sure it turns smoothly. Make sure your wiring is all connected and tight and that there is no corrosion, check the bow and stern lights, and make sure your bilge pump works and doesn’t leak, as well as your live well pump. Lastly, check your life jackets to make sure they are in good working order, flares are not expired, and fire extinguishers are in the green.
